Introduce KISJ Theatre's "Midsummer Night's Dream"

On the 19th, 20th, and 21st of May 2015, KISJ Theatre will be performing it’s season 3 play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. The show will take place in the outdoor space between the KIS middle school dorms and Branksome Hall Asia at 7:15PM. By far, it is the most anticipated production of KISJ Theatre, and the team is excited to be able to show the audience the hard work and dedication that has been put in to the play.

For many weeks, the crew and cast members have been endlessly rehearsing and practicing their parts and to see the whole play come together with different actors all contributing to the action. The members had to put in extra time into the making of this play because all of the resources and the props are student and faculty produced, from the eye-catching greek costumes designed and fabricated by the student costume team to the background music created by student musicians. Ms. Curto(Director) quotes that, “This is the first show KISJ Theatre has performed where all of the stage materials are made by the students themselves.” Since the show is student produced, the show seems more familiar and customized to the KISJ Theatre team.

The process of interpreting and giving life to an authentic Shakespearean play has definitely been a challenge to the actors, but it has helped to improve the skills of the actors and develop on a personal level to prepare for further roles. Jenny Lee(G9) says, “I haven’t played a role like Egeus(character) before, which was challenging, but I was able to act outside of my comfort zone and am now ready for various roles.” Not only did the cast and crew develop on a professional level, they were also able to make friendships and connections with each other.

The KISJ Theatre department would like to thank Ms. Curto, the director, for the time and effort that she has contributed to make the show phenomenal and Mr. DeBaun for the beautiful masks he handmade for the fairies. If you are a student of KIS, you can purchase your ticket during lunch time. If you are a nonmember, you can email kisjtheatre@gmail.com for your ticket purchase. Tickets are 5000won, and the number is limited to 100 seats per night.
