Refer to the Past

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God,

which is why we call it thepresent.” - Bil Keane

Past plays a pivotal role in constructing the history, the memories. We refer to history for

the sake of ourselves, forming better societies. The Model United Nations Club in KIS Jeju has

been adorning the history of MUN here on campus. They have participated in many conferences

such as in Korea, Boston, and Taiwan this coming week; they also hosted a conference here in

KIS, the GECMUN.

To refer the past and to better interpret the experience in SIGMUN, that happened from

January 26th to January 28th, 2015, I interviewed Dennis Kim from grade 9 regarding the

conference.

1. How was the conference?

Amazing. SIGMUN is Amazing. I attended from the first SIGMUN conference, and it

has improved so much from the first conference that was held in August.

2. What was something different with what you have attended including the GECMUN?

Hmm..... first it has a unique Korean committee, and also SIGMUN was very much

improved in the sense that all the delegates have great english skills and were committed

to the conference! I saw people from all around the peninsula, not only Seoul, but also

those from my own school!

3. How long have you been a chair for MUN?

For about 7 months? I guess

4. How was chairing different to being a delegate?

Chairing means that you need to care the whole delegation, not only yourself. Chair is the

moderator and the leader of the conference. Thus the chair should know everything about

the Rules of Procedure, and show leadership to the delegates so that the conference flows

without a problem!

5. What have you learned throughout the conference?

I learned that MUN in Jeju is really, a great fit for the Global Education City and the

students residing in it. I have seen very passionate delegates, and those who lead the

conference.

7. Are you willing to attend the conference again?

Sure. For Sure. I was in GECMUN from the start, and will do it until I retire from

MUN :)

8. How are delegates different compared to those in Jeju?

Well, I have to say that as students in Jeju who attend MUN are mostly from GEC, their

english skills are very proficient. However, due to geological restraints, all the delegates

are from Jeju, compared to conferences in the Mainland who come from all different

places in South Korea!

The SIGMUN conference undoubtedly portrayed by Dennis as an unforgettable memory. Dennis

is definitely looking forward to participate in many more conferences later in the course of the

time.

A huge appreciation towards Dennis for such a great interview.
