This week, I went to find out about lifeguarding class that is officially licensed by the international Red Cross with the official certificates given to KIS students who pass the course.

The following shows an interview with Dalton Ko(G. 11), who is in both school swim team and lifeguarding class.

Dylan : "So is it true that after passing this class, students get official US certificates of lifeguarding?"

Dalton : "Yes, that is true."

Dylan : "What is the name of the certificate?"

Dalton : "US Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate."

Dylan : "What level of achievement is it? Is it high school level? or University?"

Dalton : "Well, there is only one certificate to be a lifeguard, so there's no level."

Dylan : "So you can become the official lifeguard in a year? That is fantastic opportunity."

Dalton : "No, it's actually a semester long course. And because most of the students in class are in the swim team, it is even more fun to work with them."

Dylan : "What are you working on in class these days?"

Dalton : "We used to learn many practical skills in pool, nowadays we learn CPR skills."

Dylan : "So what are you going to do with that certificate after the course?"

Dalton : "I'm going to save people. I wanted to do some volunteer work or some internship but I haven't really thought about it because US certificate is not that useful in Korea especially because I'm a high school student."

Dylan : "Well, the skill sets themselves set you apart as an individual so it is good to hear that you can acquire those skills. I hope you do well in that class and in other classes as well. Thank you for your time.

Dalton : "Alright, see you."
