One of the most valuable experiences that KISJ provides for students is the opportunity
to do volunteer work in a foreign country through the SLL program. Students are able to not only
help those who are less fortunate, but also learn different cultures and grow globally as an
international school. From March 15th to March 21 of 2015, KISJ 9th grade student visited
Vietnam for their SLL trip and made memories and experiences that will last with them.
The KISJ Human Rights Club was able to contribute during this program, by donating
over 50 school supplies to the kindergarten the students assisted in building. During the months
of February to March, the club has been focusing on children’s human rights by raising
awareness within the student body. In order to bring their club activities even further, the
members decided to raise money through fund raising and purchase notebooks, pencils, and
markers to provide the newly built kindergarten with.
As the president of the club, I feel that it was definitely one of the biggest activities our
club has organized outside of the school campus which made the experience more meaningful.
The community leader showed his thanks and respect through shaking our hands and telling the
club members about how the children will be happy about receiving these gifts.
“Being in a club that focuses on human rights gives me different chances to participate in
volunteer work,” Jinhee Im(G9) said. She added, “In the future, I want to be able to do more for
the communities around me as well.” With this being said, the KISJ Human Rights Club is
planning to do various campaigns and donations for water preservation in the following months.
The hard work and dedication of many students made the SLL trip successful and filled with
anticipation for the next year trip as well.
