GECMUN, Beyond the United Nations

With the goal to change the game of of Korean Model United Nations, Global Education City

Model United Nations (GECMUN) 2015 has launched its first annual conference last 27th of

February. The two day conference involved the tri-schools of our proud Global Education City

- KIS Jeju, NLCS Jeju, and BHA as well as delegates who has participated to our first

conference by flying to far away Jeju, from Sungnam BIS Canada, and KIS Pangyo.

During the conference that has lasted for two days, delegates were able to experience new,

sensational committees that the conventional United Nations do not hold, and other Model

United Nations conferences do not regularly present. Unlike usual North American MUN

conferences, South Korea’s conferences provide very limited platforms. GECMUN has

presented a new variety of committees and opportunities to spread delegates’ interest, passion

and potential, adding more diverse and fun to the program. With the slogan of Beyond the

United Nations, GECMUN’s director Mr. Harris and Secretary General John Hong from KIS

Jeju, has presented committees such as Central Committee of the Communist Party of

Yugoslavia 1948 (Savez Komunista Jugloslavije), and the Trojan War crisis committee, as well as

general assembly (GA) committees such as the Security Council, World Bank, and UNICEF.

Throughout the couple days of the conference, delegates have shown their passion and

phenomenal participation at their. committees. GECMUN secretariats proudly concluded the

first annual conference “successful”, as the delegates showed their contribution to achieve

GECMUN’s goal to break the attitude of conventional MUN conferences of South Korea, and

break the stereotype of MUN to be a program for university reseme or application, or a resume

padder. Like-minded students who show their passion towards global issues have created a

platform of diverse, fun, and fruitful debate through their involvement and various,

innovational perspectives and ideas towards the agendas. All the participants, who have been

awarded or not, enjoyed their time at GECMUN, and was able to spread a new sensational

culture of MUN conferences all over South Korea. Delegates made friends, memories, and a

new type of passion towards global issues and debate.

All GECMUN delegates, secretariats, and staff are opened for passionate student delegates to

participate, as preparing and awaiting for GECMUN 2016.
