ASIS Festival

During 10th and 11th of April, 8 KIS students went to ASIS collaborative theatre festival. It was the first ever collaborative theatre festival help by any international schools in Korea. The KIS members included Merritt Brenneman, Grace Saathoff, Iris Choi, Tim Bae, Karla Bae, Jenny Lee, Tommy Park and Dylan Park. The group did a fantastic job mixing and matching up with students from other international schools such as SIS, BIS, DSS, GSIS, CCS, and YISS. It was not a relaxing theatre sessions but it was rather a constructively competitive and challenging time. The students who just met each other in Friday morning had to be settled in a group and come up with a 5 to 8 minute play in 24 hours. No wonder there was much excitement as well as stress throughout the event. Although the event was organized just through e mails and phone calls of many teachers, numerous things worked out during the two mind blowing days. The selflessness of the students really shined the day as problems were resolved actively and passionately; After all, theatre is all about taking risks. Moreover, all students were talented actors, techies, play writes and directors. The level of engagement was phenomenal regarding that there was clearly no economic incentives. Although there were some altercations here and there between the 24 hours, the final shows came up fantastically. With full effort and contribution, the 11 groups each made outstanding and unique final theatre work. Teachers from 7 schools as well as students of Dwight School Seoul were shocked by the depth and completeness of works students have created. Although KIS Jeju had not much time after the final performances to say good bye to all the members, all of them said that they were already looking forward to go again next year. The event will take place hopefully annually and there is a chance that it would also be held in KIS Jeju someday. If one is passionate about theatre work and collaboration, this event is definitely something to consider about.
