The Parents Teacher Conference, abbreviated as the PTC, happened on last Friday -

March 13th-. There weren’t any classes on that day; day students who their parents are not

coming to school doesn’t had to attend school either.

Parents Teacher Conference is a day when students’ parents get to meet student’s advisor,

and gain information about their children’s academic progress/development. Also, parents were

able to have access to school program such as Powerschool.

There are two PTCs in a year at Quarter 1 and Quarter 3. They are helpful for both

students and parents because they can get advices from their advisor, and be ready for the final

grade that are given to them at the end of each semester (Quarter 2 and Quarter 4).

There are two parts of the PTC which are “1-on-1 conversation with advisor” that

happens for about 20 minutes per student, and “meeting with teachers of each subject” in gym.

The 1-on-1 PTC happened in each advisor’s room with advisees and parents; advisor talks about

his/her student to his/her parents, and parents get to have time to ask some questions after that.

For the second part, teachers of each subject had a seat in gymnasium, and parents had to find the

teacher of subject who they would want to meet. Faculties explained about students’ ability on

the certain subject which he/she is teaching, whereas advisor talked about student's overall grade

and behavior. School believes PTC is a good time for advisor and parents to communicate, and

find a best way to help students.

A lot of parents also believe that PTC is the one of good parts of our school’s education

since it is one of a few times when parents get to meet their child’s advisor. “I think it was nice to

meet my daughter’s advisor, and talk about her academic progress,” said Yoon-mi Her, a 7th

grader’s mom. Then she added, “I was able to know more about my daughter’s attitude at school

and her leadership ability, not just her grade.” By looking at this interview, it was pretty clear to

see that parents want to know about their children’s behavior and other communication skills as

much as their desire to know their children’s grade.

2015 Quarter 3 PTC was very successful; if we keep continue this PTC traditional and try

our best to guide students to their bright future by communicating with their parents, KIS will

surely be a successful school.
