From November 4th to November 11th, KIS Jeju MUNers travelled to Boston for a conference at Brown University entitled BUSUN ( Brown University Simulation of the United Nation ).

Under the coaching of Mr. Harris, the club had their first trip abroad as ‘delegates’ which they represented specific countries. Students got to interact verbally and culturally with foreign students.

“For me, the BUSUN conference was a new step into the MUN world and a trip that gave the whole club the experience of MUN. It allowed people to experience the US culture, and also gave us MUN experience in another country,” said Mike K. (G9).

He said he is going to continue MUN until his graduation because he feels the necessity of traveling. Mike said the travel was a good part about the program we have here. Following the BUSUN trip, on November 29th, the club hosted a second mock conference where students who are not enrolled in the club were also welcomed to participate.

Hospitality was extended during the second mock conference on November 29th, here on campus. One third of the participants were ‘non-MUNers’ who hoped for a new experience and an overlook of MUN. “The two committees present were FIFA and Manchester United Board of Directors. The FIFA committee debated where the 2022 World Cup should be held, whereas the Manchester United committee decided on key affairs of the team,” said Mr. Harris.

Mr. Harris has three years teaching experience and four years coaching experience, the level of MUN he believed was “much higher than in the Middle East, but slightly lower than in North/Central America”. He concluded, “In Korea, the stronger delegates appear to have great knowledge of the subject at hand and parliamentary procedure, furthermore they are very diligent when it comes to time management and work around the clock.” In terms of having conferences abroad, he is looking into Rome, Berlin, Dubai, or Los Angeles. Domestically, he plans on attending SKYMUN, SIGMUN, and Yale MUN Korea.
