NLCS J: The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Bronze Award Expedition

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a renowned award that is given to the participants who completed four sections: service, skills, physical recreation, and adventurous journey. They need to record their activities in their logbooks with specific datess, reflection, photographs and signatures from a charger of the activity.

The Award is consisted of 3 different levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze is the easiest level and takes the shortest period of time to complete. Gold is the hardest level with the longest time and additional residential project required to complete. It takes 3 to 6 months to finish Bronze level, 6 to 9 months to finish Silver level and 12 to 18 months to finish Gold level.

On May 2nd, NLCS Jeju also had a Bronze expedition to Hyupjae Beach and they had to walk for 32 kilometres, 12 hours in total. They had to actually take care of themselves for whole journey as they set up their own tents, cooked their own meals and walked by themselves only depending on the map given to them. It would have been very challenging and new activity for them, but they certainly would have learnt many lessons regarding to outdoor skills and their own abilities.
