Incandescent-PPJ BranksomeVoice

Are you satisfied with your own voice? Well, most of people (including myself) are never satisfied with their vocals when they record and hear them. Or at least they find it awkward to listen to their own recordings.

However, it is rarely known that your voice can make a big difference. Branksome Voice is a student-initiated club that seeks to provide the vulnerable with an access to books through ‘donation’. Unlike other organizations, they donate their own voice.

Could you briefly introduce Branksome Voice?

Branksome Voice is a student-led voice donation group started by Sehwa Ryu and Eunbyul Shin as a CAS project since August 2015. Through auditioning, we have recruited a total of ten members, who are now working with us to record Korean and English storybooks as well as working on the book donation project.

What kind of initiatives did Branksome Voice carry out so far?

Branksome Voice is supporting local childcare centers by assisting them with recorded Korean and English children’s books. Until now, we have recorded several books, including Hope for the Flowers, The Giving Tree, Little Prince, Charlotte’s Web, Anne Frank’s diary and more. These books will be donated to local child care centers with the CD that has our recorded voice, as well as the cover sticker designed by ourselves.

We also work in cooperation with the Hope to the Future Association (미래희망기구), which is an organization that supports domestic and international teenagers to become active learners and leaders by providing various service opportunities in a local and global scale to promote world peace and hope. This year, they are building libraries in Korea and Less Economically Developed Countries (LEDCs) for teenagers who don’t have much access to education because of their poor living conditions. To support their project, we’ve decided to hold a book donation week to have books donated, which could be sent to this organization. We have received donations from middle school students last week, and have collected about 100 books in total until now. Not only being pertained to the students, we’ve decided to involve whole Branksome community to this project. Since this week is the book week, we are collaborating with the book fair secretariat in Branksome, What the Book, and have decided to receive book donations from the faculties and teachers also. Currently, the stall is set up in the library, which will be open when the book fair What the Book starts.
